Wow. I read in the LSJ today that the head THUG who organized the rally yesterday against Snyder/The Senate/The House/The will of the people? to put a 4.5% tax on pensions, said she chose March 15 because it is the Ides of March. Where Caesar was ASSASINATED with a knife in his back, as I recall history. She went on to pretend, "Not that I would wish anything BAD upon Rick Snyder ...."
See the venom? The hatefulness of the Left? The GREED? Does anybody like paying more? HELL NO. But Michigan has been overly generous and about the only state that gives these pensions a FREE RIDE. No tax. And the few remaining states are doing away with it, as well. Remember what I said about GREEDY GEEZERS.
Hey, I don't think it's right they're taxing my UNEMPLOYMENT insurance 20%, but you don't see me protesting. The hatred by this hag and her cohorts like Michael Moore do nothing but create vicious animosity as opposed to solve problems.
Trust me, in a few years, unless the budget is fixed, you'll be wondering where ALL the pension went.
Feel Free to blog below ... this is a hot one .... Someone's OX is getting gored ...

Everybody wants, nobody wants to give. Maybe it should be a little more across the board, but at least Rick is doing something and has some .... to do it! His plan is not so much about the taxing to me as it is about how they chose to be fiscally responsible with spending from here on out. Tax & Cut all you want, but if we and the elected "peeps" aren't realists, honest, and willing to work TOGETHER....none of this matters anyway! As a business owner, I write so many checks and epay so many taxes, it makes me ill that there is such waste and disregard. My pen wouldn't shake so each day, week, month as I wrote them if I knew that it was towards prosperity, not enabling special interest, pork spending and corrupted back scratchers!
This is what you get when you vote Republican!! More money for the rich fat cats and less for the working poor. Now they're going to make seniors eat dog food to subsist. Who is really greedy, Mr Michaels? You are. Seniors deserve their fair square. What they was prommised.
"What they was prommised" ???? Another well-educated citizen of our public school system.
"The hatefulness of the Left." You amuse me. As though Faux News and right-wing radio hosts aren't filled with vile, twisted hatred for anyone who isn't either white and wealthy or uneducated and suggestable. Speaking of which.. uneducated goons? That would be the gun-nuts who only vote republican because it will allow them to continue building their hate-inspired arsenal of automatic weaponry under the false pretenses that they need to protect themselves and/or hunt bears with an average of 20 rounds per second and 18 arms. And.. Greedy geezers? That would be... Rick Snyder, for example: an old guy who swayed the idiots who saturate this state to vote him in, and who is suddenly "SURPRISE" ready to raise taxes on the poor and in turn give tax breaks to the wealthy, and then BRAG about it while installing his own rewritten government mandate to appoint his personal goons to each region and have them start shutting down local government branches at their own whim (including political reasons). The idiots who support this idea claim that we all need to sacrifice. So why the tax break on the wealthy? Where's the sacrifice there? It's word-twisting and complete B.S. Snyder is a businessman who wants to run Michigan like a business, HIS WORDS. Suddenly the right is on board with him. Funny, last time anyone in government suggested running it like a business, the far right were all ready to force lawmakers to commit seppuku over the mere thought of such godless ideas. Me, I am a supporter of those who protest at the capital, because they represent those of us who did NOT luck into the "right" job that pays obscenely well for minimal work; those of us who can NOT afford to be taxed heavily to allow the rich to live richer, and who do not believe that the american dream should consist of the gamble at making it into the top 1% of the country that collectively owns TWICE the amount of the other 99% combined. Uneducated? I have an IQ of 164 and study physics in my spare time. Continue to claim my views to be dumb, while holding your ears and chanting "LA LA LA" until the talking heads on FOX start up again with their idiotic beliefs that a government of elected officials with a categorical duty to protect the will of the people is fundamentally more evil than a privatized CEO with self-appointed absolute control running our state. Because that makes complete sense.
WoW. There you go again. Faux News? Don't watch it. Right Wing Radio? Actually, Hater, I'm more Libertarian, but whatever. Oh, there goes the race card, I see. Oh yeah, the wealthy (i was raised by a single mom in a $30/month house - and I am unemployed HATER). Gun Nuts? The Founding Fathers knew we needed a 2nd Amendment to protect ourselves from NAZIS like you. Man, I am getting bored reading that blogger who couldn't sign his/her name. IQ of 164? Right. I've met a lot of educated idiots. I can pilot a plane with instrument rating ... I am an astrophotographer in my spare time; own a 12 inch SC telescope. Who cares? So predictable the progressives.
Usually when someone is quoting their IQ, it is for their self-edification ... case in point above.
My anonyomous status -- as I see is both highly endorsed and simultaneously condemned by you -- is for a VERY good reason, Rich, and you do know me well. ;) I certainly seemed to get your heat up! I'd challenge you to address the actual points about Snyder and the right wing lies, but you have zeroed in on my less than subtle jabs at what I see as some very real stereotype shoes that fit the majority of both the upper and lower class right-wing voters, especially those who do so under the false notion that they are not just another incarnation of the same old republican. Shame on me for drawing conclusions about the intelligence and agendas of the right, perhaps I should have just stayed in the projects with my fellow uneducated thugs?
Also, M&M IDEA must be right. I did not state my IQ as a counter to the pathetic rationalization that anyone who supports the left must be dumb, I clear did it for my... self-edification. That's right, stating my IQ made me learn something. Or perhaps you meant something else.
Just to clear up a fact here....Michigan is one of only a couple of states that DOESN'T tax retirements. And before I get called a racist or a dumb right winger....we get a pension from the military, which right now is not taxed. But Michigan is in a hell of a lot of trouble of over spending and yes, falling home values. The "tax cuts" for businesses - is actually repealing the hugely unfair and complicated Michigan Business Tax. Why should business owners by 2 taxes on the same income????? It's not like we won't still have to pay taxes. Both sides are guilty of picking and choosing what they want heard about the other side.
Hey Anonymous,
Lets get the facts straight, First "hate-inspired arsenal of automatic weaponry under the false pretenses" - These "20 rounds per second automatic weapons" are illegal, unless of course you have a Federal Tax Stamp and are licensed... and they can't be used for hunting... secondly "Raise taxes on the poor and give breaks to the wealthy" - What a joke. Its called leveling the playing feild - paying your fair share of taxes on things that should have been taxed all along - a tax break for the rich- If you mean giving me- a small business owner- a chance to keep 76% of my own money instead of 66% of my own money, you're right... but I'm sure you think that I just go home every night to my "Money room" and roll around in it and laugh at all of you "little people". Grow up (I.Q. of 164 - I doubt it, you would have been smarter than to come up with the "Faux News" comeback.
The one that really got me was your "Rewritten government mandate to appoint his personal goons to each region and have them start shutting down local government branches at their own whim" statement. That's just a laugher'... have you read the bill? Do you know that it already exsists? This puts trigger points in place and many things have to happen BEFORE there is ever an Emergency Manager put into place... God.. You are REALLY IGNORANT or Michael Moore... (redundant I know)... Would you please READ the bill and educate yourself on Gun laws in the state (and Nation for that matter). Then hire a good accountant (because your interpitation of the tax laws are a little suspect).
By the way... I have also worked for a public munincipality for nearly 30 years and have a pension that will be taxed (and rightly so) upon my retirement. Oh, about these Caddilac public retiements you've heard so much about? I pay 17% of my check towards my retirement. That Medical plan at retirement? they give me $3000 per year towards my premiums... Get your facts together before you start your lip service.

Sorry for the re-post Rich, I actually wanted to sign my name....
I'll go ahead and skip over the pathetic bite you took on my exaggerated baits and skip to the paper-facts you claim superiority in as though they had more biblical meaning to you than they do to me. In 2010 Michigan's overall tax climate was ranked at 17 in the country. That's not bad. The difference between Michigan and many other states is the imbalance between the rich and the poor. The MBT, surcharge, and corporate tax rates are some of the highest in the country (ranked 48 in the climate as of 2010), while our tax rates on the poor are currently just slightly lower than average (ranked between 9 and 15 from sales tax to personal income tax). Effectively, this means that businesses were being "unfairly" taxed while the poor were being "coddled", as the right would have it seen. In application, however, and having grown up in this state, living amongst the poor and working in direct contact with the rich, the result is quite different. The poor actually had a chance to live with honor and dignity in this state, provided that they kept a job and worked hard in it. This restructuring of the tax laws is not "leveling the playing field" by any stretch of the imagination; it's putting Michigan in line with the standard republican desired treatment: Let the rich live in luxury at the expense of the poor, who are rightfully screwed. As it is now, there are no "cadillac welfares" or other myths perpetuated by nervous, greedy businessmen. There are struggling families desperate to stay in a home and are willing to work their collective asses off just to keep from losing everything, the threat of which hangs over our heads every day by greedy employers like you. These business owners, meanwhile, complain and whine around their torturous MBT under the threat that they might one day have to give up a summer home if they really have to go through the pain of actually paying their employees a fair wage and dedicate a meaningful percentage of their grossly oversized personal allotment to the state. Your quibbling over 10% of luxury is meaningless to me, sir. But in the same vein, I am also less concerned about my own paycheck being taxed as I am with the other repercussions of this head-petting of the rich that is being put through with the elimination of the MBT at the expense of the working class. The severe cuts being placed on public schooling and higher education, the elimination of credits towards the preservation of historical reserves, energy efficiency credits, and the earned income tax credit that applied to those who are TRULY struggling to get by in this economy are the disaster in progress, here. People like you simply don't care. You claim righteousness in the reserved right to give a few bucks to a charity of your choice once you've taken a few off the top for your new TV. I claim righteousness that I work hard and do not need your charity, nor do I need a wall-mounted HD. But with my class being brought back to screwed so that your class can be slightly less inconvenienced, you insult me and degrade yourself by even THINKING that the "playing field" has EVER been in my favor. I don't feel like I deserve anything you have, and I am very happy with my life and my lifestyle, but I know I do NOT deserve to be further torched by the system that claims I need to sacrifice more so that you won't have to.
Following up: To be fair, I am in fact speaking from rage. The MBT can be dissolved and the taxes CAN increase on the lower class, but if that wasn't enough, there are a million more aspects to this that reek of pandering to the upper class to me.
To finalize, my anonymity will remain, not because I'm afraid of you, but because I am the tragic bearer of irony. If my name were to be known, I would likely lose my job. As low-paying as it is, I cannot afford such a risk in Michigan. If I ran my own business, perhaps it would be a different story.
I'm aware that viewpoints are different. My translations of the forthcoming laws that I HAVE read in both summary and at length are likely not shared here, as I've taken the leap to post my views in a place where they are not shared.
In order to put Michigan back on solid economic ground, all sides need to work together to the BENEFIT of each other. What is happening here is a spinning of the wheel, with fortunes placed all on one rung.
I know that my rage does not help, and that my views on the upper class blind me from certain political truisms. That's not likely to change in the future. But then again, I never claimed to be the one capable of leading this state forward. Just know, when you call those who fight for the rights of the working class "thugs" and deny our capacity to make intelligent and fair claims on our own behalf, all roads go both ways, and both of us are far from being any beacon of rational perspective. The real answers lie somewhere in the middle. My responses end here.
there are actually 4 or 5 states where you do not pay a tax on pension, not 2 as stated above.im a retired worker on a pension and i probably wouldnt have a problem with paying a tax if it was fair across the board.he is doing nothing to himself or the other rich cats.show me where hes being fair and also hurting himself.wheres his fair share..hes going to give tax breaks to the rich and businesses and they will hire a small amount of people and pay them 8 bucks an hour.i guess there will be no middle class anymore.hes a liar.just ask the police and fire departments that endorsed him and then he turns around and stab them in there backs.hes gotta tweek his bills a little bit for it to ever pass.even his own party doesnt go for his ideas..
Rich, I'm a state employee, as you are aware. I've been putting my own $ into my pension for forever. I'm a union employee too. I haven't gone near the capitol since it started, and don't plan to. It's not that I don't support the people who feel that they've worked all this time for their pension, then stayed when they could have retired because their bosses said they were too important--it's going to hurt the little guys like me--the people on the very bottom of the totem pole, who have to keep stashing away more and more of our paychecks in order to cover the increases in inflation who are going to suffer. We took these jobs and put up with the CRAP from those who have come to believe that they are ENTITLED to the money that's being handed out by the government for YEARS--and I'm not talking about social security and pensions here--I'm talking about the poor, disabled and the working poor as well.
Rick Snyder claims he's only accepting $1 for his work as governor this first year (at least that's what I've heard), so I can't blame him AFAIC, but to put the problem on the backs of the state employees is just insane. As a state employee myself I can tell you that my step daughter, who is in management and has only been working for the state for a little while, makes more than I ever have as a union employee (and I am 8 years from retirement!).
The responsibility for the deficit doesn't fall on the union workers--no matter how the media would like to twist it into believability. More often than not, we're the ones doing the jobs that nobody else wants to do--answering the phones for instance and listening to angry people demanding to know where their payment is at (as if we had any control over it, or any idea where it might be in the postal system!)
After 28 years of listening to people treat me like I'm a piece of crap, I feel that I've paid my dues--not just to the union, but to the people of the state of Michigan and to my bosses, and that now it's time for payback. Instead, the people think I don't deserve it anymore, even though I'm doing the job of 2 and a half people due to retirements.
Thanks a lot, governor. It's no wonder we are so angry. Nobody out there really "gets" it. We've been hacked to pieces in recent years, and now they're trying to kill us off. I simply don't agree with the idea that the responsibility for cleaning up the deficit should fall to the union employees who take all the crap and get nothing for it...including recognition for the helluva job they do.
I'll just sign this "Unsung hero being shafted by the man and the people he works for..."
